Method

Preparation
  1. Clear the area by moving small furniture, toys, and other objects.
  2. Vacuum slowly in overlapping passes—first north to south, then east to west.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda across high traffic areas and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Always perform a spot test in a hidden corner before applying any cleaning product.
Cleaning
  1. Mix your main cleaner in a spray bottle: 2 cups warm water, 1 teaspoon dish soap, and 1 tablespoon white vinegar.
  2. Work in sections of about 2 by 2 feet, spray lightly until damp, not soaked.
  3. Use a soft brush to loosen soil and blot with a clean towel.
  4. Rinse with a clean towel dampened in plain warm water to lift any residue.
  5. To dry, lay a dry towel over the cleaned area and press down.
  6. Use fans or open windows to help the carpet dry faster.
Tackling Tough Stains
  1. For coffee and tea stains: Blot with cold water, then apply a mix of warm water, dish soap, and white vinegar.
  2. For red wine stains: Blot, sprinkle baking soda, then use warm water with dish soap.
  3. For grease stains: Sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda, let sit, then spot treat.
  4. For pet accidents: Blot, mix equal parts white vinegar and water, spray and sprinkle baking soda.
  5. Finish all stain treatments by rinsing with a damp towel.

Notes

Keep pets and children off the carpet until it's fully dry. Consider deep cleaning every 2-3 months for pet households or twice a year for solo living.
