Preparation
- Toast the bread first so it’s ready.
- Melt butter over medium heat in a skillet.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste; do not brown.
- Slowly whisk in milk, a little at a time, until smooth.
- Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until the sauce coats the back of a spoon (about 3–5 minutes).
- Add chopped dried beef and warm through for 1–2 minutes.
- Season with pepper and add salt only if needed.
- Spoon over warm toast and serve immediately.

Notes
