Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix 2 1/2 cups flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water until the dough forms. Roll out the dough and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate. Trim any extra dough and set it aside.
Making the Filling
- In another bowl, combine sliced apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tbsp flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples well.
- Pour the apple filling into the prepared crust.
Making the Crumb Topping
- In a bowl, mix 1 cup flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, softened butter, and 1 tsp cinnamon until crumbly.
- Sprinkle this topping evenly over the apple filling.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the topping is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving. Enjoy your classic Dutch apple pie!

Notes
Use cold butter for the crust to create a flakier texture. Mix different types of apples for a more complex flavor. Let the pie cool to help set the filling before serving. You can add raisins or cranberries for added sweetness, or drizzle caramel sauce for a fun twist.
