Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 slices slices white bread You can also use whole wheat or gluten-free bread.
  • 8 tablespoons Cajeta (Mexican caramel sauce) Can substitute with regular caramel sauce if necessary.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk Non-dairy milk alternatives can be used.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons butter For frying.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Cut off the crusts from each slice of bread and flatten them slightly with a rolling pin.
  2. Spread about a tablespoon of Cajeta onto each slice of flattened bread.
  3. Carefully roll each piece of bread from one end to the other, creating a tight roll. Set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  2. Heat the butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat until it’s melted and bubbling.
  3. Dip each bread roll in the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated.
  4. Place the rolls in the hot butter, allowing them to cook until golden brown on all sides, approximately 2 minutes per side.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  6. Once cooked, roll each French toast roll in the cinnamon sugar until well-coated.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy the sweet, gooey goodness!

Notes

These roll-ups are best served warm. Consider drizzling more Cajeta on top or pairing with fresh fruit. They can also be reheated without losing crispness.
