Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1 box box chocolate cake mix (only using the dry mix)
  • 1.5 cups Dr. Pepper Cherry Soda
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries with no stem (remove 24 cherries from jar and set aside)
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted sweet cream butter (softened)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (plus 2 more cups if needed)
  • as needed tbsp maraschino cherry juice To achieve desired consistency and flavor
  • 1 container chocolate shavings (optional) Found at Hobby Lobby

Method
 

Cake Directions
  1. Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the dry chocolate cake mix with the Dr. Pepper Cherry Soda until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake as directed on the box.
  4. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
Cherry Frosting Directions
  1. In a medium bowl, cream the softened butter.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until smooth.
  3. Add maraschino cherry juice to achieve the desired consistency and flavor.
  4. Once the cake has cooled, spread the cherry frosting generously on top and garnish with the reserved cherries.
