Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage (cooked and crumbled)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (regular or gluten-free) Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or sugar (optional, for sweetness) Optional ingredient.
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted and cooled) Make sure butter is cooled before mixing.
  • 1 cup additional cheese (for topping, optional) For an extra cheesy finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease your muffin tin or line it with paper cups.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir well.
  3. Add the cooked sausage and grated cheese to the mixture, ensuring everything is evenly distributed.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and maple syrup or sugar if using.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined—don’t overmix!
  6. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about three-quarters full.
  7. If desired, top with additional cheese for an extra cheesy finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
