Ingredients

For the Garlic Butter Spread

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Shrimp

  • 225 grams large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

For the Sandwich

  • 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise
  • 8 slices cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Swiss recommended)
  • 100 grams shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Butter for grilling

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, dried basil, and salt. Mix well to create a garlic butter spread.
  • Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Spread the garlic butter evenly on the cut sides of the French bread. Place the bread halves on a baking tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden and crisp.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Pat the shrimp dry and season them with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the shrimp is pink and opaque.
  • Place one half of the baked garlic bread, buttered side down, in a clean skillet over medium heat. Layer cheese slices on top, sprinkle with shredded mozzarella, and distribute the cooked shrimp evenly. Top with the other half of the bread, buttered side facing up.
  • Lightly butter the top of the sandwich and grill for 2-3 minutes on each side or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese melts completely.
  • Remove from the skillet, slice the sandwich in half, and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

It's best to eat leftovers within 1-2 days. Reheat in a skillet over low heat for best results. For a twist, add vegetables like spinach or tomatoes, or substitute shrimp with crab or lobster.
