Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20) Ground turkey or plant-based crumbles can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion Yellow or white onion.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Approximately 1 oz.
  • 1/2 cup water
For Assembling
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or Mexican blend.
  • sour cream For serving.
  • salsa For serving.
  • lettuce, shredded For topping.

Method

Cooking the Beef
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up with a spatula.
  2. Once the beef starts to brown, add the chopped onion. Cook until onion is soft and the beef is well-browned, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the meat, add 1/2 cup water, and stir to combine.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3–4 minutes. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  6. For food safety, ensure ground beef reaches 160°F (71°C) internal temperature.
Preparing the Burritos
  1. Warm tortillas briefly in a skillet or microwave (10–15 seconds) so they’re pliable.
  2. Lay each tortilla flat and divide the beef mixture into 4 portions down the center.
  3. Top each portion with about 1/4 cup shredded cheese, a spoonful of salsa if desired, and shredded lettuce.
  4. Fold the sides in, then roll tightly from the bottom to form a sealed burrito. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly brush or spray the burritos with oil for a golden finish, if you like.
  3. Bake for 8–12 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the tortillas are lightly crisped.
  4. Remove from oven and let rest 1–2 minutes before serving to avoid burns from hot filling.
