Ingredients

Apples
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored You can also use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Fuji for a slightly different taste.
Dough and Toppings
  • 1 package crescent roll dough (8 pieces) This will provide a delightful flaky crust.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Adds a level of richness to the dish.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Essential for that lovely caramel flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar To enhance the overall sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Brings a warm hug-like aroma.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg For a cozy, warming spice.
  • 1 cup apple cider or soda (like Sprite) Keeps the dumplings moist and adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances the overall flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and core your apples, then set them aside.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the mixture is smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Wrapping Apples
  1. Take each crescent roll piece and wrap it around a prepared apple, pinching the seams to seal them well.
Baking
  1. Place the wrapped apples in a baking dish. Pour the caramel sauce over them, making sure they are well covered. Carefully pour the apple cider or soda around the dumplings.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the apples are tender.
