Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound thick-cut bacon Opt for thicker slices for that perfect chewiness.
  • 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar Light brown lends a gentler sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup If you’re out, runny honey works as a tasty substitute.
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Optional; a pinch of cayenne adds nice heat if desired.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, and black pepper (if using). Mix until well blended.
  3. Lay the bacon strips on the baking sheet. Ensure they aren’t overlapping for even cooking.
  4. Generously brush the sugar mixture onto the bacon, coating each strip thoroughly.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the bacon is caramelized and crispy, turning once halfway through for an even glaze.
  6. Remove from the oven and allow the bacon to cool; it will crisp up even more as it sets.

Notes

Store any uneaten candied bacon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer in a freezer bag. Reheat in the oven for best results.
