  • 1 cup chocolate shavings Optional, choose dark, milk, or white chocolate
  • 1/4 cup Kirsch Optional; skip for a non-alcoholic version

Preparation
  1. Prepare the chocolate cake according to the package instructions (or your homemade recipe).
  2. Let the cake cool completely, then cut it into bite-sized chunks.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Layering
  1. In a trifle dish or individual glasses, layer the cake pieces, whipped cream, cherries, and chocolate shavings.
  2. Repeat the layering process, finishing with a dollop of whipped cream and a final sprinkle of chocolate shavings on top.
  3. Drizzle with Kirsch, if using, and chill for at least an hour before serving to let the flavors meld.

Notes

Garnish with additional fresh cherries or a sprig of mint for a festive touch. Pair with vanilla ice cream or espresso for a satisfying end to your meal.
