Ingredients
Method
Prepare the Cake
- Bake the chocolate cake as per the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Allow it to cool completely before cutting it into small pieces.
Whip the Cream
- In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer to whip until stiff peaks form.
Prepare the Cherries
- If using fresh cherries, pit and slice them. For canned cherries, drain them and reserve the juice. Mix them with the cherry juice to enhance the flavor.
Assemble the Trifle
- In a large trifle dish (or individual servings), begin layering. Start with chocolate cake pieces, followed by a layer of whipped cream, then a layer of cherries, and finally a layer of vanilla pudding. Repeat until you reach the top, finishing with the whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Let it Chill
- Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight!) to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set beautifully.

Notes
When serving, consider adding a sprinkle of cocoa powder on top for an elegant touch. Pair with a hot cup of cocoa or a glass of red wine. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and best enjoyed within 2 to 3 days.
