Ingredients
  

Stew Ingredients

  • 2 packs cubed stewing steak Choose well-marbled cuts for tenderness.
  • 1 pack stew pack of vegetables Includes carrots, onions, and celery.
  • 3 cubes beef stock cubes Use low sodium if preferred.
  • to cover ml boiling water Enough to cover the beef and vegetables.
  • as needed cornflour (for slurry) Mix with water to thicken stew.

Dumpling Ingredients

  • 225 g flour All-purpose flour works best.
  • 1 tbsp baking powder For leavening.
  • 100 g suet Can substitute with vegetable shortening.
  • as needed ml water To create dough consistency.

Preparation

  • Cover the cubed stewing steak and the vegetable pack with boiling water in a slow cooker.
  • Add the beef stock cubes to the mixture.
  • Set the slow cooker to low and let it cook for 7-8 hours.

Thickening and Dumplings

  • Once ready, mix cornflour with a little water to create a slurry and add it to the stew to thicken it.
  • Prepare the dumplings according to your recipe.
  • Place the dumplings on top of the stew, cover with a lid, and cook for an additional 30 minutes until the dumplings are fluffy.

Notes

For added flavor, sear the meat before adding it to the slow cooker. Use fresh herbs, like thyme or rosemary, for enhanced flavor. Ensure not to overwork the dumpling dough; this will help keep them light and fluffy.
