Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced Flank steak is a good substitute.
  • 2 cups broccoli florets Adds color and nutrients.
  • 1 cup cooked jasmine rice Fragrant and fluffy base.
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced For that earthy flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced A must for depth of flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Serious umami boost.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce Rich and savory taste.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Adds a lovely nuttiness.
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch Optional for a thicker sauce.
  • 1/4 cup cashews For garnish, adds crunch!

Method

Preparation
  1. Marinate the beef: In a bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch (if using). Allow it to marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Prep the veggies: While the beef is marinating, wash and chop your broccoli and slice the mushrooms. Mince the garlic.
Cooking
  1. Heat your pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat a teaspoon of sesame oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Stir-fry the beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, then stir-fry the garlic, broccoli, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes, until they’re tender-crisp.
  4. Combine: Return the beef to the pan and mix everything together, heating for another 2 minutes.
  5. Serve over rice: Place a scoop of jasmine rice in each bowl and top with the beef and broccoli mix. Garnish with cashews.

Notes

For the best flavor, always slice beef against the grain. Ensure your pan is hot enough for a good stir-fry. Optional: Drizzle with more sesame oil or sprinkle sesame seeds for added flavor.
