Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey Add more for extra sweetness if desired
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine or sherry Dry sherry is a good substitute
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
For the Chicken
  • 4 pieces chicken thighs Bone-in, skin-on recommended for juiciness
  • 1 bunch green onions, for garnish

Method
 

Marinade Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, Chinese five spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until well combined.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in the marinade, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the chicken for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grill or roast the chicken for about 25-30 minutes, basting with the extra marinade every 10 minutes.
  3. Check if the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C) and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
