Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1 cup Applesauce The star of the show!
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Works best for texture.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Adds depth and moisture.
  • 2 large Eggs For binding.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon For that warm flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg For added spice.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger For warmth.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cloves For additional flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda For leavening.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder For leavening.
  • 1/2 cup Light vegetable oil Can use canola oil as well.
For the Frosting
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened for easy mixing.
  • 1/4 cup Butter Adds richness to the frosting.
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon For flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, applesauce, and oil until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, sift together the flour, sugars, baking soda, baking powder, and spices.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Don’t overmix!
  5. Divide the batter evenly between your prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool the cakes in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and cinnamon, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Frost the cooled cakes and layer them if desired.

Notes
