Ingredients
  

For the strudel
  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry dough Ensure it is thawed before use.
  • 3 cups fresh apples, peeled and sliced Firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best.
  • 1 cup golden raisins Optional - can be replaced with chopped nuts.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Enhances apple flavor.
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash) Can be substituted with plant-based milk for vegan option.
For the glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk Use plant-based milk for vegan option.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry dough on a floured surface.
  3. In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, golden raisins, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix well until the apples are coated.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the pastry dough, leaving a small border on all sides.
  5. Roll the dough into a log, ensuring the seam is on the bottom. Place it seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush the top with the beaten egg to achieve a golden finish.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the strudel is beautifully golden brown and flaky.
Making the glaze
  1. To make the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until you reach a smooth consistency.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm strudel just before serving to add an appealing touch.
