Ingredients

For the Donut Holes
  • 1.5 cups self-rising flour Essential for puffiness; can substitute with all-purpose flour mixed with baking powder and salt.
  • 3/4 cup cinnamon applesauce
  • 2 inches canola or vegetable oil (for frying) Ensure to heat to 350°F.
  • cinnamon sugar Optional coating for added sweetness.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, mix the self-rising flour and cinnamon applesauce until you have a thick, cohesive dough.
  2. Heat about 2 inches of canola or vegetable oil in a deep skillet or heavy pot to 350°F.
  3. Scoop out 1-tablespoon mounds of dough using a small cookie scoop or spoon.
  4. Carefully drop them into the hot oil, frying only 3–4 at a time.
  5. Fry the donut holes for about 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and puffed.
  6. Remove the holes from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. While they’re still warm, roll each donut hole in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  8. Serve warm to enjoy their delightful texture.

Best enjoyed fresh out of the fryer. Store leftovers in an airtight container; they last about 1-2 days at room temperature or longer in the refrigerator. Reheat before serving.
