Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Use fresh flour for best results.
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 large egg Beaten.
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired glaze consistency.
Main Ingredients
  • 2.25 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped Can substitute with other tart apple varieties.
  • Vegetable oil For frying.
Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Method

Prepare the Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cinnamon until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just blended; avoid overmixing.
  4. Gently fold in the chopped apples.
Fry the Fritters
  1. In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat, enough to submerge the fritters for frying.
  2. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil.
  3. Fry them until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Make the Glaze
  1. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve a drizzle-worthy consistency.
  2. Dip the warm fritters into the glaze and place them on a cooling rack.
  3. Repeat until all fritters are coated.
