Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2.25 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped Can substitute with other tart apple varieties.
For Frying
  • Vegetable oil For frying
For Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired glaze consistency.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add the milk, stirring until mixed. Gradually combine this mixture with the dry ingredients until you have a thick batter.
  3. Gently fold in the chopped Granny Smith apples, ensuring they are evenly coated with the batter.
  4. In a deep pan, heat about an inch of vegetable oil over medium heat.
Cooking
  1. Using a spoon, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, cooking until golden brown on each side (about 2-3 minutes per side).
  2. Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Glazing
  1. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth, adjusting the milk quantity as needed.
  2. Drizzle or dip your warm fritters in the glaze and let set before serving.
