Ingredients
  

Crumble Topping

  • 3/4 cups unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks, cold) Must be cold for a flaky texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups oats Old-fashioned or rolled oats work best.
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with a gluten-free blend.
  • 1/2 cup almond flour Adds a nutty flavor.
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Spiced Apples

  • 6 pieces apples of choice (Honeycrisp, Gala, Granny Smith, Cortland, etc.) Use a mix for varied flavor.
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch Helps thicken the juices.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, all-purpose flour, almond flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Spiced Apples

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  • In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with light brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and nutmeg.

Assembly

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a greased baking dish, layer the spiced apples, then evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
  • Bake for around 45 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
