Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with whole wheat flour.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar Can be swapped for honey or maple syrup.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is softened but not melted.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can be substituted with Greek yogurt.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons) Dissolve in buttermilk.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the buttermilk and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  4. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined; don’t overmix!
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently fold it several times until it comes together.
  7. Roll or pat the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes
