  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup This will be your gravy base.
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) water or broth Add depth to the gravy.
  • as needed all-purpose flour for dredging Helps create a crispy crust.

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, blend the ground beef, milk, cracker crumbs, salt, black pepper, and chopped onion until well combined.
  2. Form this mixture into a loaf shape and wrap it up before refrigerating it overnight to enhance the flavors.
Cooking
  1. Slice the beef loaf into 1/2 inch thick pieces the next day.
  2. Dredge each slice in flour to create a golden crust.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and pan-fry the slices until browned on both sides.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and your choice of water or broth until smooth.
  5. Pour the creamy gravy over the browned beef in a baking dish, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 60 minutes.
  6. Serve the slices smothered in gravy over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
