  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal
  • 2 tsp baking powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup milk
Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups chopped onions Sweet onions like Vidalia for sweetness or yellow onions for a traditional taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, and a touch of salt. Stir to blend the dry ingredients well.
  2. Gradually stir in the milk, mixing until the batter is smooth.
  3. Fold in the chopped onions, ensuring they are evenly coated with the batter.
Cooking
  1. Pour oil into a frying pan, heating over medium heat until it’s hot, but not smoking.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides, which usually takes about 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve them warm for the best taste!
