Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time while mixing in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients and milk, alternating between the two, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain, color one red, and the other blue using food coloring.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool on a wire rack. Trim any domed tops for even layering when fully cooled.
Assembly
- Frost layers with a thick layer of frosting in between and on top.
- Decorate with sprinkles and additional colorings as desired.

Notes
