Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pieces hot dogs (any variety: beef, pork, turkey, or plant-based)
  • 4 slices bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or brioche)
  • 2 slices cheese (American, cheddar, provolone, or plant-based cheese)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or cooking spray (for spreading on the bread) For a lighter version, use cooking spray instead of butter.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  2. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice. If using cooking spray, spray the bread lightly right before cooking.
  3. Place a slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of two bread slices. Lay a hot dog on top of each cheese slice. Add the second slice of cheese over the hot dog.
  4. Cover with the remaining bread slice, buttered side up.
Cooking
  1. Transfer the assembled sandwiches to the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  2. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 5–7 minutes, flipping halfway at around 3 minutes.
  3. Check for golden brown bread and fully melted cheese. If needed, add 1–2 more minutes.
  4. Remove carefully, let rest 1 minute, then slice on a bias and serve.

Notes

Serve with classic condiments: ketchup, mustard, relish, or mayo. For a brunch twist, top with a fried egg and a sprinkle of chives. Store leftovers properly to maintain crispness.
