Ingredients
  

Onions and Coating
  • 2 large large onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk Optional; regular milk can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • to taste Salt
  • as needed Cooking spray or oil for frying

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Thinly slice the onions and soak them in buttermilk for about 10 minutes for added flavor and coating.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Drain the onions and coat them evenly with the flour mixture.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Cooking
  1. Place the coated onions in a single layer in the air fryer basket, lightly spray them with cooking spray.
  2. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
  3. Allow them to cool for a bit before serving.

Notes

Store crispy fried onions in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to a month. Reheat in the air fryer for a couple of minutes to regain crispiness. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket and try experimenting with different spices!
