Ingredients

  • 2 large large onions, thinly sliced Yellow onions are classic, but red or sweet onions can also be used.
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk) Soaking the onions helps to soften and flavor them.
Coating Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour This will help to create the crispy texture.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds flavor to the coating.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika For color and a hint of flavor.
  • to taste salt and pepper Adjust according to preference.
  • Cooking spray or oil Used to spray the onions before air frying.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Soak the sliced onions in buttermilk for 30 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Remove the soaked onions from buttermilk and evenly coat them in the flour mixture.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the coated onions in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  3. Lightly spray with cooking spray or drizzle oil over the onions.
  4. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the onions, let them cool slightly, and enjoy as a topping or snack.
