How to Make Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 450 g extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 40 g minced fresh garlic (approximately 1 medium head)
  • 8 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 g paprika
  • 0.5 g cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 85 g unsalted butter, cut into 15 g pieces
  • 30 ml olive oil
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 4 g minced fresh parsley (optional)

Directions

  1. Pat the shrimp thoroughly dry on both sides with paper towels and place them in a mixing bowl.
  2. Sprinkle the shrimp with all-purpose flour, paprika, cayenne pepper if using, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Toss until the shrimp are evenly coated.
  3. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes on the first side until the bottoms turn pink. Flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes until just opaque and cooked through.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat. Drizzle the shrimp with fresh lemon juice and toss gently. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with parsley if desired. Serve immediately, spooning the garlic butter sauce from the pan over the shrimp.

How to Serve Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp

Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp is best served hot, straight from the skillet. You can enjoy it over a bed of rice or alongside a fresh green salad for a complete meal. Don’t forget to drizzle some of that tasty garlic butter sauce on top!

How to Store Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp

If you have leftovers, let the shrimp cool and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. They will stay fresh for about 2-3 days. You can reheat them gently on the stove or in the microwave before serving again.

Tips to Make Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp

  • Make sure to dry the shrimp well before cooking. This helps them get a nice sear and prevents them from steaming in the skillet.
  • Feel free to adjust the garlic and seasoning to your taste. If you love garlic, don’t be shy to add a little more!
  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of white wine while cooking the shrimp.

Variation

You can easily make this dish your own by adding a few extras. Try tossing in some vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for more color and nutrition. Alternatively, add a bit of ginger for a unique twist.
