ZEBRA CAKE

Zebra Cake

It’s exactly what it sounds like: a cake designed to mimic the beautiful stripes of a zebra. My mother-in-law, a seasoned Facebook user (unlike my husband and me), once came across a zebra cake on her social media feed and was mesmerized by its beauty. Since her birthday is just around the corner (tomorrow, to be precise), I decided to make this zebra cake for her to enjoy her own sweet zebra creation. Of course, by zebra, I meant zebra cake.

Most of us are familiar with this delightful chocolate and vanilla cake, crafted in either a zebra or marbled pattern. The taste of it evokes childhood memories for many of us. Served slightly warm with a cold glass of milk, zebra cake has always been a delightful treat.

In my quest to recreate that familiar taste, I gathered various recipes and finally decided on this set of ingredients while making a few quantity adjustments. I opted for butter instead of oil and didn’t melt it; instead, I creamed it together with the sugar. I also reduced the sugar compared to many other recipes. The batter is so creamy and delicious that you could almost eat it on its own.

You can enjoy this zebra cake as is, with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee, or you can elevate it with a chocolate glaze on top for a more sophisticated presentation.

If you’re a fan of the classic vanilla and chocolate combination, you might also enjoy my Marble Bundt Cake or this delectable Chocolate Swirl Bread—a real kid-pleaser.
