Replacing fabric softener with vinegar? Here’s why that’s a good idea

4. Less static

Especially in the winter our clothes can get staticky and ruin our hair. If you use vinegar in your laundry this will be a thing of the past because its acidity fights the static in your clothes. Nifty!

5. Color retention

It doesn’t just make your clothes softer; it also helps your clothes keep their color. It’s always nice knowing your favorite shirt won’t be ruined after just a few washes! Vinegar helps not only colored laundry loads but also protects black loads.

6. Less damaging

Natural vinegar’s name says it all: natural. It is therefore less polluting when it enters the water than fabric softener. This agent is often a lot more chemical and therefore less friendly to the environment.

Dosage and smell

As we said before, the smell of vinegar isn’t great. No worries, after your laundry is dry, the sharp odor will quickly go away. Don’t use too much vinegar. If you have hard water, use about a coffee cup of vinegar. In areas where soft water is used, a small tablespoon is enough.
