- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp ground sage
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp rosemary
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper
- Fresh Thyme
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Prepare Bread Cubes: Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Cut the brioche loaf into approximately 1/2-inch cubes. Arrange the cubes in a single layer on a baking tray (you may need two trays). Bake for about 45 minutes until the cubes are crunchy and dry, resembling croutons. This step can be done ahead of time.
- Prepare Ingredients: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Dice the onion and chop the celery and apple.
- Sauté Vegetables: In a large pan over medium heat, add the diced onion, chopped celery, and butter. Sauté for 8-10 minutes until the vegetables are soft and fragrant. Add the chopped apple and sauté for an additional 5 minutes. Remove the sautéed veggies from the pan and set aside.
- Cook Italian Sausage: In the same pan, cook the Italian sausage (casings removed) until browned, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Prepare Liquid Mixture: In a bowl, combine the chicken stock, eggs, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well combined.
- Combine Ingredients: Once the sausage is browned, remove it from the heat and transfer it to a large bowl. Add the sautéed vegetables, dried bread cubes, sage, thyme, rosemary, and garlic powder. Toss everything to combine.
- Add Liquid Mixture: Pour the prepared liquid mixture over the ingredients and mix until all the bread cubes are evenly coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Bake: Transfer the stuffing mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes covered, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
